When my clients schedule their newborn session, they receive a well thought out guide to help them in preparing for a newborn session. The tips I share come from my experience as a mom of three, as well as over twelve years of experience capturing hundreds of newborns. Included in the email is a quick list of what to pack in your diaper bag the night before, easing any sense of rush come the morning of your session. The morning of the session
The morning of the session should be filled with excitement, not stress. Following the simple tips provided in your welcome guide will help ensure your morning goes smoothly. Your diaper bag will be ready to go and baby will be calm and sleepy. You can trust that your little one will *eventually* fall asleep during his or her newborn session. Head to the studio and let the magic happen…
What if baby isn’t sleeping when we arrive
But…but…What if baby isn’t sleeping when we arrive? Parents worry. I get that. But I can promise you will not leave the studio without a gallery full of beautiful images of your new addition, and variety, too. Any photographer who has mentored with me knows variety is always a priority! And so, if baby isn’t sleeping, I will swaddle your love bug and capture the most perfect eyes you’ve ever seen. I will swaddle your sweet baby and capture his or her curious nature. I will swaddle your little one and capture all the details that will change in the blink of an eye. And then…slowly but surely…your newborn will sleep, and we will continue to capture the little miracle and all those precious details.
Arlo’s session is a perfect example of a newborn who came in ready to learn all about newborn photography. I joke, but what a curious new soul he was! I ADORE images of babies when they are wide awake, and Arlo was incredibly alert for quite a while. But, soon enough, he fell asleep and allowed me to create the sleepy newborn art that melts a heart.
